Preparations and excitement are already in full swing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to begin in June next year.

Ticket sales have started, with over one million tickets sold in the first phase, FIFA announced on Thursday via their official website.

The tournament, to be hosted across three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — will feature 48 teams, 16 more than the previous World Cup. Fans from 212 countries and regions have already purchased tickets since sales officially began earlier this month.

The host nations top the list in ticket demand and purchases, followed by football powerhouses including England, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, and France — all expected to participate in the tournament.

So far, 28 teams have secured qualification, while the remaining 20 will earn their spots through regional qualifying rounds.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed enthusiasm over the record-breaking sales, stating, “More than one million World Cup tickets have been sold. Fans from over 200 countries and regions have already purchased tickets.”

The first phase of ticket sales saw 4.5 million applications, with successful buyers selected via a lottery system.

The second phase of ticket applications will open on 27 October.

With demand soaring, the 2026 World Cup ticket sales are set to break records and add to the growing anticipation for football’s biggest event.
