Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, has expressed unwillingness to accept the title of ‘National Reformer,’ and the government has no intention of officially bestowing such a designation upon him.
This clarification came through a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Tuesday, July 15, in response to a High Court rule issued the previous day.
On Monday, a High Court bench issued a rule asking why an order should not be passed declaring Dr. Yunus as a `National Reformer.` In response, the government stated that not only is Professor Yunus personally unwilling to accept such a title, but it also has no current plans to pursue such a declaration.
The Press Wing`s statement emphasized that the government has noted the High Court’s query and will formally respond once it receives an official copy of the order. It also noted that the writ petition appears to have been filed independently by the applicant, and the legal grounds for such a petition remain unclear.
The Attorney General’s office is set to take appropriate legal steps in this matter following standard procedure.
