Cristiano Ronaldo has once again etched his name into football history, securing the Guinness World Record for the most international wins. The Portuguese forward was honored with this prestigious recognition before Portugal’s UEFA Nations League quarter-final second leg against Denmark at Estadio Jose Alvalade. This achievement saw him surpass the previous record held by his former Real Madrid teammate, Sergio Ramos.
At 40 years old, Ronaldo continues to break records. This latest milestone adds to his already impressive collection, which includes records for the most international goals, being the first player to score 100 goals in the UEFA Champions League, and being the most-followed male on Instagram. With international duty done, Ronaldo now shifts focus back to club football, where he will represent Al-Nassr against Al-Hilal on April 4.
Portugal secured a 5-2 victory in extra time against Denmark on Sunday, winning the tie 5-3 on aggregate to book a Nations League semi-final clash against Germany. Ronaldo played a crucial role in the comeback, despite missing an early penalty. Francisco Trincão came off the bench to score twice, while Ronaldo also found the net.
Denmark had the upper hand in the first leg with Rasmus Højlund’s goal in Copenhagen giving them a 1-0 lead. In the second leg, early drama unfolded as Patrick Dorgu fouled Ronaldo in the third minute, conceding a penalty. However, Kasper Schmeichel made a brilliant save to deny Ronaldo’s spot-kick. The Portuguese captain nearly made amends in the 17th minute with a header, but Schmeichel once again denied him. Portugal eventually equalized in the 38th minute when Denmark’s Joachim Andersen scored an own goal.
With the match going into extra time, Portugal dominated as Trincão’s brace sealed the victory, with Ronaldo also getting on the scoresheet. Although he had to watch extra time from the bench, Ronaldo remained vocal, urging his team forward as Portugal finally overcame Denmark’s resistance. Now, Portugal sets its sights on the semi-final against Germany, while Ronaldo continues his relentless pursuit of excellence in both international and club football.
