Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has purchased a 25% stake in Spanish club UD Almeria, marking his first major move into football ownership. The 41-year-old plans to support the club’s growth and development beyond the pitch as Almeria fights for promotion back to La Liga.
Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has officially returned to Spanish football but this time his impact will be felt in the boardroom.
The 41-year-old superstar announced on Thursday, February 26, 2026, that he has purchased a 25% stake in the Spanish club UD Almeria.
The investment was made through his newly formed company, CR7 Sports Investments. While the exact cost of the deal remains private, the move marks a major milestone in Ronaldo’s transition toward life after his playing career.
Almeria, currently competing in Spain’s second division, is ranked third in the league and is fighting for a promotion back to the top-tier La Liga. In a statement released via his investment group, Ronaldo shared his excitement for the project. “It has been a long-held ambition of mine to contribute to football beyond just on the pitch,” Ronaldo said.
He added that “UD Almeria is a Spanish club with strong foundations and clear potential for growth,” and noted that he is eager to “support the next phase of the club’s growth.”
Club president Mohamed Al-Khereiji welcomed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, stating, “We are very pleased that Cristiano has chosen our club to invest in. He knows the Spanish leagues very well and he understands the potential of what we are building here.”
