In a major structural shift, Rubaba Dawla — the only female director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board — has been appointed head of the women’s wing, taking charge amid ongoing controversies surrounding women’s cricket in the country.
Rubaba Dawla, the only female director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has been appointed as the new head of the board’s women’s wing, replacing former national cricketer Abdur Razzak. The decision was confirmed on Tuesday through an official press release issued by the BCB, announcing the restructuring of several standing committees.
The move comes at a time when women’s cricket in Bangladesh has been at the center of public debate and dissatisfaction over recent management decisions and performance concerns. Rubaba’s appointment is seen as a significant step toward bringing more inclusive leadership to the women’s cricket program.
Although the BCB formed 23 standing committees on June 6, a day after the board elections, Rubaba was not included at that time as she had not yet taken office. She was officially nominated as a director by the National Sports Council on November 3.
Rubaba replaces Abdur Razzak, who previously led the women’s cricket division for a long period. Razzak, a former national team spinner, has now been appointed as the vice chairman of the women’s wing and simultaneously made head of the High Performance Unit (HP).
The reshuffling also affects other key positions: former Bangladesh captain Khaled Masud, who previously headed the HP unit, is now the chairman of the Grounds Committee. Meanwhile, BCB President Aminul Islam, who personally oversaw women’s cricket, will now continue handling responsibilities under both the BPL Governing Council and the Working Committee.
Rubaba’s appointment is expected to bring fresh perspective and renewed focus to the development of women’s cricket in Bangladesh, at a time when stronger governance and investment are widely demanded.
