Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has etched his name into the record books, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test match twice.
The historic feat came during the first Test against Sri Lanka, where Shanto dazzled with a 148-run knock in the first innings, followed by an unbeaten 125* in the second. With this performance, he not only anchored Bangladesh`s batting effort but also marked a significant milestone in the country’s cricketing history.
Shanto had previously achieved this rare double-century-in-both-innings feat against Afghanistan in 2023, scoring 146 and 124 in that match. Before him, Mominul Haque was the only Bangladeshi batter to reach the same milestone, scoring 176 and 105 against Afghanistan in Chattogram back in 2018. However, Mominul did it only once.
Shanto now joins an elite club of international batters to have scored twin centuries in a Test match more than once. He becomes the 14th player in the world to do so. Legendary names in this list include Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, David Warner, Rahul Dravid, and others.
Among them, Gavaskar, Ponting, and Warner stand out, having achieved the feat three times in their illustrious careers.
Shanto’s consistency and composure under pressure further solidify his reputation as one of Bangladesh’s most reliable red-ball batters, and this achievement adds yet another milestone to his growing legacy.
