Two dead and 500 arrested in France during PSG win celebrations

France witnessed chaotic scenes following Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League win over Inter Milan on Saturday night, with wild celebrations spiraling into violence in parts of the country. According to the interior ministry, two people lost their lives and at least 192 were injured during the festivities, while police arrested more than 500 individuals.

In Paris alone, 491 people were detained, with 254 placed in police custody. The iconic Champs-Élysées turned into a flashpoint as thousands of fans poured into the streets. Riot police faced off with rowdy crowds, using tear gas and water cannons to disperse them after bus shelters were smashed and projectiles thrown.

The unrest extended beyond the capital, with more than 200 vehicles reportedly torched and numerous fires breaking out. Among the injured were 22 members of the security forces and seven firefighters, highlighting the intensity of the overnight clashes.

Authorities said the situation was under control by Sunday morning, but the celebrations left behind significant damage and raised questions about crowd management during major public events.
