Former Bangladesh cricket captain Aminul Islam Bulbul is set to become the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following his recent appointment as a councillor by the National Sports Council (NSC).

Bulbul was nominated to fill one of the vacant positions under the NSC quota after the council revoked the directorship of former BCB president Faruque Ahmed. The removal came after eight out of nine board directors submitted a no-confidence letter against Faruque, prompting the NSC to take action.

The BCB board of directors will meet today at 4:30 PM, where Bulbul is expected to be formally elected as the new president. According to insiders, there is unanimous support for his appointment, and the process is expected to be a formality.

Bulbul, Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, has confirmed his willingness to take on the role, albeit for a short term. He mentioned that he had to consult with the International Cricket Council (ICC), where he is currently employed, and received no objection to his temporary shift.

Meanwhile, despite being ousted, Faruque Ahmed has refused to step down voluntarily. He argued that he had not been given a valid reason for his removal and insisted on staying unless properly informed of the charges against him. Faruque stressed that he was selected for the position and deserved clarity before being asked to resign.
