Shakib sets unwanted record for most T20 ducks by a Bangladeshi

Shakib Al Hasan, long considered the face of Bangladeshi cricket, has now found himself at the top of a list no batter wants to lead. After being dismissed for zero in two consecutive matches for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, Shakib now holds the unenviable record for the most ducks by a Bangladeshi player in T20 cricket.

In his most recent appearance, during the second qualifier on 23 May, the experienced left-hander lasted just two balls before being caught while attempting to up the scoring rate. That came after another first-ball duck in the previous game, highlighting a tough comeback after a lengthy break from competitive cricket.

These two dismissals brought his tally of T20 ducks to 32, moving him ahead of Soumya Sarkar, who has been out for zero 31 times. While Soumya has batted in 232 T20 innings, Shakib has had a longer run with 410 innings-the most by any Bangladeshi batter in the format.

Other notable names on the list include Imrul Kayes (22 ducks), Tamim Iqbal (20), and Mushfiqur Rahim (19). However, on the global stage, Shakib’s tally still lags behind several international players. West Indies‍‍` Sunil Narine tops the worldwide chart with 48 ducks, followed by Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (45), England’s Alex Hales (44), South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw (35), and a three-way tie at 33 involving Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, and Paul Stirling.

Despite the unwanted milestone, Shakib remains a central figure in Bangladesh’s cricketing history, though this record will be one he’d rather forget.
