National Citizen Party launches its youth wing ‘Jatiya Jubo Shakti’

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has officially launched its youth wing, "Jatiya Jubo Shakti," pledging to empower young people and make their voices central to national policy and innovation. The new platform was unveiled on May 16 in a symbolic gathering outside the banned Awami League’s former central office on Shaheed Abrar Fahad Avenue in Dhaka.

At the heart of the initiative is a promise to redirect the country’s demographic advantage toward progressive change. NCP leaders said Jatiya Jubo Shakti aims to break away from traditional, partisan youth politics by focusing on real challenges facing young people—such as unemployment, lack of access to resources, and exclusion from the policymaking process.

NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, while announcing the 131-member committee representing all 64 districts, described the youth wing as an alternative political force rooted in grassroots activism. He emphasized that over 40% of Bangladesh’s population is youth, and their unified involvement is crucial for reshaping the country‍‍`s future.

Advocate Tariqul Islam was appointed as convenor, with Dr. Jahedul Islam named member secretary. The wing’s operational leadership also includes Chief Organiser Engineer Forhad Sohel and several senior joint coordinators such as Tuhin Mahbub, Nahida Bushra, and Dutee Aranya Chowdhury.

Patwari framed the launch as a continuation of the movement that began with the Shaheed Abrar Study Circle and evolved through Chhatra Shakti, which he claimed led to a mass uprising with cross-party support. He expressed optimism that this new platform would become a key milestone in youth political mobilisation across Bangladesh.

NCP leaders further called on India to refrain from meddling in Bangladesh’s domestic politics, urging it to sever ties with the Awami League and engage with the people instead. NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain asserted that decisions regarding the country’s future must be made solely by its citizens.

Thousands of enthusiastic supporters from across the nation joined the launch rally, arriving in processions and chanting slogans in support of the new youth wing. The complete list of committee members is expected to be released soon.
