July uprising participants now divided, confused: Mahfuj Alam

The students who participated in the July uprising are experiencing division and confusion, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam said today (8 May).

"Students have split into multiple factions, leading to internal division. Despite this, they are being treated similarly to other political parties," he said in a Facebook post.

He wrote, "The political landscape is characterised by multiple centres of power, which complicates governance as entities beyond the government exert influence. Democratic transformation and a new political settlement require more than mere approval."
He went on to day, "After December, political parties are not collaborating, yet they maintain vested interests within the administration, judiciary, and police. The establishment appears intent on reverting to a two-party system and sidelining student involvement."

He stated that out of nearly three dozen appointees, only two are students.

"While the two of us are managing a delicate balancing act, meaningful influence requires fair and balanced student representation within the government," he added.
