The National Cyber Security Agency has urged the public to report social media posts inciting terrorism or violence, following recent arson attacks on media outlets, warning that such online hate speech is punishable under the National Cyber Security Ordinance 2025.

The National Cyber Security Agency on Saturday urged people to directly report social media posts containing calls for terrorism and violence from Saturday.

A press release, issued by the posts, telecommunications and information technology ministry on Saturday morning, also read that public can directly report these posts through WhatsApp and email.

It also read that after reviewing the complaints initially, the agency will report these posts to the platforms through BTRC.

People are requested to call at 01308332592 (WhatsApp number) or send mail at notify@ncsa.gov.bd to report such incidents.

The government made the call following arson attacks on two media outlets, The Daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star on early Friday.

The attacks were carried out after the news of the death of Inquilab Mancha convener and one of the July uprising organisers, Sharif Osman Hadi, spread on Thursday night.

The Saturday release also read that it should be noted that the government cannot take down any social media post, the government can only report posts related to violence to the relevant platform by citing legitimate reasons.

‘It is important to remember that hate speech that directly inspires violence or calls for violence is a punishable offense under the National Cyber ​​Security Ordinance 2025,’ the release continued.

The agency also urged people to public to refrain from using social media as a tool for violence or creating violence, as well as to be aware of the security of the country and the lives and property of its citizens.
