The U.S. State Department has delayed the registration for the DV-2027 Green Card lottery, warning against fake claims that the process is open. Officials confirmed the visa application period for selected entrants—October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027—remains unchanged, with further updates to be announced soon.

The US State Department has announced significant changes to the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery, commonly known as the Green Card lottery.

In an official statement, the department said it will announce the opening date for DV-2027 registrations as soon as possible, along with details on when lottery results can be checked through the Entry Status Check (ESC) system.

However, the department clarified that these changes will not affect the visa application period for selected individuals.

Applicants chosen for DV-2027 will still have the window from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027 to apply for their visas.

Due to these adjustments, the announcement of the lottery registration start date has been delayed.

The department also warned about fraudulent claims circulating that the DV-2027 lottery is currently open.

The statement read: “Registration for Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 is currently closed. We are aware of fraudulent claims asserting that registration is open or that certain services can increase the chances of winning the lottery. These claims are false.”

Further details regarding the registration period and process changes will be released by the State Department shortly.

The Diversity Visa programme provides permanent residence opportunities in the US to citizens of countries with historically low rates of immigration.

Under the programme, 55,000 individuals are selected annually.

For the 2026 programme, several countries including Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland and Hong Kong), Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela, and Vietnam have been excluded.
