Pakistan nominates Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize over ‍‍`India-Pak conflict role‍‍`

In a surprising diplomatic move, Pakistan has officially nominated former U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his crucial role in de-escalating the recent military confrontation between India and Pakistan.

The announcement came following a rare high-profile meeting between Trump and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House, shortly after the two nuclear-armed nations endured a four-day exchange of cross-border shelling. The flare-up, which began after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people, concluded with an agreed ceasefire on May 10.

The Government of Pakistan shared the announcement on social media platform X, stating that the nomination recognizes Trump’s “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the tense standoff, which they claim helped prevent further escalation.

Field Marshal Munir, who had earlier advocated for Trump’s Nobel consideration, credited the former U.S. president with helping avert a potential nuclear crisis in the region. Munir was hosted for lunch at the White House—a gesture Pakistani officials are calling a “significant diplomatic achievement.”

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly confirmed that Trump extended the invitation to Munir after his public endorsement for the Peace Prize nomination.

The recent India-Pakistan conflict began when India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan-controlled areas in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack. The military operations lasted four days, culminating in a ceasefire brokered at the leadership level.

India maintains that its assertive military response led to Pakistan seeking de-escalation.

Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent promotion marks a historical moment, as he becomes the first to receive the title since Ayub Khan in 1959.
