Trump says India-Pakistan escalation ‍‍‍‍`a shame‍‍‍‍`, UN chief calls for restraint

The escalating conflict between India and Pakistan has drawn reactions from global leaders, with concern growing over the potential for further hostilities between the two nuclear-armed nations.

US President Donald Trump described the situation as "a shame," commenting that it was no surprise given the longstanding tension between the two countries. He added, "They‍‍‍‍`ve been fighting for many, many decades. I hope it ends very quickly."

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he was closely monitoring the situation and echoed President Trump‍‍`s hopes for a swift resolution. He further pledged to continue engaging with both India and Pakistan‍‍`s leadership to promote a peaceful outcome.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres‍‍‍‍` spokesperson expressed deep concern about the ongoing military operations, especially across the Line of Control and the international border. The UN called for "maximum military restraint" from both nations, stressing that the world could not afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan.

The conflict was triggered after India launched an attack on Pakistan early Wednesday in retaliation for a deadly attack on tourists in Kashmir last month, which led to at least eight deaths in Pakistan. The escalation has heightened international concern, with leaders urging both countries to de-escalate the situation.
