Mahin Hossain, a young Bangladeshi development communicator shaped by global experience, is helping transform how nonprofits share their stories—bringing clarity, dignity, and impact to communities that need it most.

The Storyteller Driving Purpose and Impact

Today, the way an organization communicates can make all the difference. Communication is not just about sharing information—it is about building trust, connecting with people, and inspiring action. This is even more important in the development sector, where organizations work with vulnerable communities, influence behavior, and try to bring positive change. Without clear communication, even the most important work can go unnoticed.

For many years, this was a big gap in Bangladesh. While big international companies were slowly creating communication teams, many local NGOs focused only on their programs. Communication was often unstructured, and stories about their work rarely reached the public or donors.

It was in this environment that Mahin Hossain began his journey. Seven years ago, he left Bangladesh to study in Ireland. After completing a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from BRAC University, he went on to pursue a Master’s at the University of Limerick. While studying, Mahin started volunteering with a local NGO in Dublin. Working with people in need, he realized that communication could be a powerful way to create social change.

“When I was volunteering in Dublin, I felt I wanted to do something similar in my own country,” Mahin recalls. “If I could make a difference abroad, I knew I could do the same back home.”

When Mahin returned to Bangladesh, he faced a big challenge. Communication in the development sector was mostly unstructured. There were no proper systems, no dedicated teams, and almost everything had to be learned through trial and error. Instead of being discouraged, Mahin saw this as an opportunity to build something meaningful from scratch.

In 2021, Mahin joined It’s Humanity Foundation (IHF), a nonprofit organization working to improve education, livelihoods, and youth development in Bangladesh. As the Communication and PR Lead, Mahin plays a key role in telling the organization’s stories. He shares the voices of children, women, and communities, helps coordinate campaigns, and connects IHF with partners, donors, and the wider public.

Over the years, the development sector in Bangladesh has started to recognize how important communication is. Many organizations now have dedicated teams and understand how good communication can help with transparency, advocacy, and building support. Mahin has been part of this change, helping improve how development work is shared with the world.

For Mahin, his job is more than just work—it is a mission. His international experience, academic training, and volunteer work guide the way he tells stories and engages with people.

From classrooms in Ireland to field visits and strategy meetings in Dhaka, Mahin’s journey shows how young Bangladeshis can use their skills and experience to make a real difference at home. Today, he is a growing leader in development communication, showing how clear, honest, and thoughtful communication can help create a future full of opportunity and dignity for everyone.
