Bangladesh Bank has cleared the way for local exporters to sell directly on global e-commerce giants like Amazon, eBay and Alibaba under a new B2B2C policy, unlocking broader access to international online marketplaces.
Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and businesses will now be able to sell their products directly on major global e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Alibaba and Flipkart.
Bangladesh Bank has authorised exporters to sell goods abroad directly through Amazon and eBay.
The central bank issued a circular to this effect on Monday (24 November) through its Foreign Exchange Policy Department, opening up new opportunities for local exporters to access popular global online marketplaces.
To expand participation in online-based international markets, Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new policy initiative. With the aim of making cross-border e-commerce simpler and more efficient, the bank has permitted exports under a Business-to-Business-to-Consumer (B2B2C) framework.
According to the circular, authorised dealer (AD) banks will now be able to process export transactions where a foreign consignee acts as an intermediary platform or marketplace rather than the final buyer. This means Bangladeshi products can be exported through Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, Etsy, or any international subsidiary or third-party warehouse.
For such export activities, exporters must submit proof of their registration with the relevant global platform or warehouse to the AD bank. As traditional sales contracts are typically absent in the B2B2C structure, exporters may declare the fair value of goods based on a pro forma invoice.
Additionally, if the consignee functions solely as a service provider, AD banks may accept shipping documents issued in the consignee’s name.
