Bangladesh has announced a new set of commitments aimed at modernising its role in United Nations peacekeeping missions, with a particular focus on technology and gender inclusion. Speaking on the final day of the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin, Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain outlined the pledges, which include deploying 15% female personnel in police units, introducing an AI-powered surveillance and response system in peacekeeping camps, and installing 1.8 megawatts of solar panels across existing missions.

These initiatives highlight Bangladesh’s efforts to enhance both the operational effectiveness and sustainability of its peacekeeping contributions. Officials noted that the integration of advanced technology such as artificial intelligence aims to improve security and responsiveness in complex mission environments.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, serving as special assistant to the Chief Adviser for Defence and National Solidarity Development, also addressed the conference. He underlined the importance of structured training and the smart use of modern technology to ensure the safety of peacekeepers. He further stressed the ethical deployment of AI in such sensitive international operations.

On the sidelines of the event, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain engaged in bilateral talks with representatives from Liberia, Panama, Eswatini, Guinea, the Czech Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He also held meetings with top officials from the International Committee of the Red Cross and the European External Action Services, reinforcing Bangladesh’s diplomatic engagement on global peace and security issues.
