Chittagong University confers honorary DLitt on Yunus

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus was honoured with an honorary Doctor of Literature (DLitt) degree by the University of Chittagong during its fifth convocation held on campus today. The prestigious recognition was presented to the Nobel Laureate by CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Muhammad Yeahia Akhter.

The convocation ceremony, a major academic milestone for the university, was attended by thousands of graduates and dignitaries. Dr. Yunus, who also delivered the convocation address, was recognised for his exceptional contributions to society and his global influence as a pioneer in social business and microcredit.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Yunus arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that touched down at 9:22am, marking the beginning of his ceremonial visit to the university.

The honorary degree has been seen as a celebration of Yunus’s lifelong commitment to social change, with the university terming it a tribute to a figure who has brought international honour to Bangladesh.
