Yunus set to visit Chittagong for port inspection, CU convocation

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is set to make his first official visit to Chattogram tomorrow, marking a significant moment since assuming his role. The day-long tour will include a packed itinerary of port inspections, infrastructural reviews, and participation in Chittagong University‍‍`s (CU) fifth convocation.

Yunus will begin his day by arriving at Chattogram from Dhaka and heading directly to the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at 9:30am. There, senior officials from the Chattogram Port Authority will brief him on port operations, infrastructure developments, and major ongoing projects. This includes strategic initiatives such as the Bay Terminal, Laldia Terminal, and enhancements to the NCT itself—areas where foreign investment interest has been steadily growing.

Md Omar Faruk, Secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority, confirmed that the chief adviser will remain at the port until 10:15am. During this time, he will engage with senior stakeholders from the port and shipping industries, as well as representatives of trade and business communities. His visit is being closely watched as a potential catalyst for renewed investment in Chattogram‍‍`s maritime infrastructure.

Following the port visit, Yunus will head to the Chattogram Circuit House to participate in several civic events. These include a high-level discussion on tackling the city’s persistent waterlogging problem, the handover of a land allocation document for the Chattogram Heart Foundation, and a review of road development progress from the Oxygen area to Hathazari.

A key highlight of the day will be the unveiling of the foundation stone for the long-anticipated Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River. The new bridge promises to significantly improve connectivity for residents in southern Chattogram, including Boalkhali and Patiya.

Later in the afternoon, Yunus will grace the fifth convocation ceremony of Chittagong University as the chief guest. Before wrapping up his visit, he is also expected to pay a visit to his ancestral home in Bathua village, located in Shikarpur union of Hathazari upazila.

This visit is viewed not only as a ceremonial homecoming but also as a statement of administrative commitment to accelerating development and infrastructure projects in one of the country’s most vital economic hubs.
